Be A Runner 2014 is a charity run organized by MEGA, and supported by The Faculty of Medicine of UKM. This event has been organized, in collaboration with the Society of the Blind, Malaysia.
The Society of the Blind Malaysia or SBM, established in 1964, is a non-religious, non-political, national voluntary organization of blind individuals of all races and from all walks of life in Malaysia, to secure equal rights and opportunities for them.
The society performed many activities and programmes for its members and such activities are adult education classes on Braille reading and writing, languages, as well as computer literacy courses and handicraft making. Of course, there are other activities organized by this society such as sports and recreational activities, talent time and cooking classes. Apart from that, SBM members can represent the society in programmes and activities organized by other bodies. This is to allow members to break the social barrier and integrate with sighted individuals or people with certain disabilities.

A collaboration with SBM is a huge step up for us, and we believe that this charity run will benefit all participants. Apart from promoting the blind individuals to get involved in sports and recreational activities, this event allows sighted individuals to interact and integrate with the blind individuals. Moreover, this event will break the social barrier that is present between blind and sighted individuals. In addition, it helps to improve the general well-being of these blind individuals.
Furthermore, we would like to promote SBM to the community, especially Malaysians, with a great hope that more people know about their establishment.
To show our great consideration and respect for this society, we have organized three categories for this charity run. Charity Run (2.0km) has been exclusively organized to show support for the blinded individuals. All runners are encouraged to enter and register for 'Charity Run' as members of SBM would be joining us in this category! Run, and do something different!
